New road and civil infrastructure projects undertaken in recent months by Dhofar Municipality have improved access to some of Dhofar Governorate’s most popular tourist attractions this Khareef season.
Noteworthy is the example of a new blacktop to Wadi Darbat, the first phase of which was inaugurated recently by the municipality. It includes the construction of an underpass that enables access all the way to the waterfall and the boating site.
Looking ahead, the second phase of the project, set to begin after the Khareef season, will involve opening an additional road from Wadi Darbat to Aqba Shihit. At the heart of enchanting Wadi Darbat is a picturesque valley boasting a serene lake, cascading waterfalls, and a network of scenic hiking trails. Recognising its potential, the municipality has invested in developing the area, constructing new kiosks, parking facilities, and a walkway.
The Observer had the opportunity to speak with delighted tourists visiting Wadi Darbat. Mohammed al Qahtani, who came all the way from Saudi Arabia, expressed his satisfaction with the area's development, stating, 'It's even more beautiful than I remember. I'm glad I came.' Likewise, Hamad al Mars from Kuwait, who learned about Wadi Darbat from friends, happily shared, 'I'm so glad I did; it's a beautiful place.' The ongoing development in Wadi Darbat exemplifies the growing tourism industry in the Dhofar Governorate. Anticipating a further increase in visitors during the Khareef season, the region continues to captivate travellers from all corners of the world with its unique beauty.
The Dhofar Governorate itself has become a hotbed of tourist activity during the Khareef season, attracting visitors with its lush green mountains, stunning waterfalls, and pleasant climate. Recent heavy rainfall has only added to the region's allure.
