Oman athletes shine in Arabian Sports Games

The national athletes team raised the tally of Oman’s medals to five medals including two gold, one silver and two bronze at the Arabian Sports Games in Algeria.
Fatik Abdulghafoor claimed the first gold for Oman in the Men’s high jump competition after he registered a jump with a mark of 2.16 metres.
Omani star in Paralympics Qusai al Harrasi bagged the silver medal in the Men’s 100 metres in the T12/13 category, when he cleared the distance in a timing of 11 minutes and 83 seconds.
Sprinter Barakat al Harthy clinched bronze in the men’s 100 metre competition after he clocked 10:37 seconds .
Long jumper Salim al Yarubi bagged the bronze as he registered a jump of 15.41 metre while the gold medal went to Algerian Yasser Mohammed with a mark of 17.30 metre. The silver was taken by the Algerian athlete Boualbani Adem as he cleared 16.35 metre.
Oman’s relay team comprising Rashid al Asmi, Barakat al Harthi, Ali al Balushi and Mohammed al Saadi clinched the gold medal in the 4x100m competition after they registered a timing of 39:70 seconds.
The silver medal went to Bahrain team while the bronze was claimed by Algeria.
The national coach, Mohammed al Hooti, expressed his full satisfaction on the performance of athletics team members. “I am pleased with medals accomplished by the athletes till now in the Arabian Sports Games. This is a result of hard work in the previous camps and learning of the sprinters and athletes from their mistakes. The Arabian Athletics Championship in Morocco recently and before the Arabian Sports Games was a great opportunity for the athletes to gear up for the competitions.
“ Our focus is now on the Asian Games in China in September. The training sessions will be doubled period to shape the readiness of the athletes. I hope we can continue performing well and accomplishing more medals,” he said.
