Archbishop Nicholas Thevenin (Apostolic Nuncio in Oman), who has been appointed as the first Vatican Ambassador to Oman, lauded the social fabric of the Sultanate of Oman, a day after the country topped in global peace index.
He praised the efforts Oman is taking in supporting people from different walks of life by offering a secular society respecting the beliefs of one and all and in providing a safe and peaceful environment to live and work in the country.
Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the reception hosted by Crowe Oman, the ambassador of Vatican also hailed the farsightedness of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
'It is indeed a commendable achievement that the Sultanate of Oman has made in terms of providing the society with a fear-free life, the most peaceful and safest environment in the world,' he said.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry earlier said, “We are delighted to announce the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Vatican. We look forward to working together for peace and many other humanitarian causes.”
Both sides agreed to establish, on the basis of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of April 18, 1961, full diplomatic relations at the level of an Apostolic Nunciature to Oman and of an Embassy to the Holy See.
'What makes Oman different is the social fabric that is congruent to foster brotherhood, harmony and coexistence and Oman's stance in many global issues is a testimony to it,' he added.
