Be careful while driving, warns Met

 
Holidaymakers must be careful while driving as Oman Met Office warned dust storm in the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar.

Thamrait to Haima has been a busy route with tourists taking the road to enjoy Khareef in Dhofar.

The weather officials said the dust and dirt rise will continue on Sunday.

“Pay attention and take caution as dust will continue to rise and visibility will decrease on Saturday and Sunday due to active winds (15-25) knots over the desert areas of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, and opportunities for activity from northwest winds will cause dust to rise on Sunday over parts of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah governorates.”

Wind speeds at some monitoring stations recorded showed Haima Station with 21 knots Duqm station - 22 knots, Thamrait - 22 knots and Al Mazyouna - 16 knots.

Meanwhile rains continued and a strong hail storm was experienced in Samad al Shan in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi.

Partly cloudy skies are expected along the coastal areas of Dhofar and adjoining mountains with a chance of intermittent drizzle. There are also chances of isolated thunderstorms over the desert parts of the governorate. Mainly clear skies over most of the governorates with chances of convective clouds development and isolated rain over parts of Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas towards afternoon.

There are chances of low clouds or fog patches at late night to early morning along the east coast of Musandam and parts of coastal areas of Oman Sea and Arabian Sea.

Humidity in Muscat is expected to range between 55 to 80 per cent, while in Salalah it will range between 80 per cent to 95 per cent.

The sea is rough along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea with a maximum wave height range of 3.5 metres.
