MUSCAT: In a proactive measure to safeguard motorists, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a warning regarding the low horizontal visibility caused by rising dust, coupled with the accumulation of sand on the Haima-Thamrait road.
With active winds exacerbating the situation, drivers are urged to maintain control over their speed and exercise caution.
The ROP has intensified monitoring efforts to address reckless driving, resulting in the seizure of two vehicles on the Haima-Thamrait road for exceeding speed limits. Legal measures have been taken against the drivers to reinforce the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
Furthermore, heavy rainfall in certain areas of Nizwa has led to the flow of wadis, prompting authorities to evacuate public parking lots in front of Nizwa market. Citizens are advised to comply with instructions and exercise vigilance to ensure their safety.
Emphasising the significance of responsible driving, the General Traffic Department urges all road users to abide by traffic rules and regulations, prioritising the well-being of themselves and others.
Highlighting the alarming impact of excessive speed, the ROP cites research studies showing that a mere 10 km/h reduction in speed can lead to a 20-per cent decrease in accident probability, a 30-per cent decrease in injuries, and a 40-per cent decrease in fatalities.
With road safety as a paramount concern, the ROP continues its efforts to raise awareness and foster a culture of cautious driving, aiming to mitigate the occurrence of traffic accidents and their devastating consequences.
