Art has long been recognised as a medium for self-expression and exploration, providing a channel through which artists can convey their emotions, experiences, and perspectives. It is an undeniable fact that the creation and consumption of art can significantly impact one’s mental well-being.
Bait Muzna Art Gallery is currently hosting the works of various artists, an extravaganza that focuses on the experience and depth of art and how this is connected to the mind of an artist.
“Through the Looking Glass” was launched late last week and inaugurated by mental health advocate HH Sayyida Basma al Said with Siham al Harthy and Cinzia Farise as guests of honour.
During the ceremony, Sayyida Basma, in her speech, shared that there is a direct connection between art and mental health.
“Art is a good way to release all types of energy, and emotions and the process can be healing. This is the best way for people who do not want to talk about what they are going through. Sometimes it also provokes feelings that one might not have noticed that they have. So it is one of the strongest tools to use,” said Sayyida Basma, founder of Whispers of Serenity, the Chief Guest of the function.
The guests of honour, Siham al Harthy, CEO of Siham Investment and Development and Cinzia Farise, CEO of Oman Cables spoke about the important position Art holds in the society today and the significance of collecting arts.
Bait Muzna Art Gallery team and creative duo Lucia and Luca proved art is not just a decoration on the wall by highlighting the artists represented quotes of thinkers, riddles and games.
Artist Lucia Oliva is one artist who does not just depend on canvas to express her creativity. There are a lot of mirrors used that complement her work and most interestingly rock.
“I have always liked to do art in theatrical style because I have a strong background in theatre, dance, choreography and acting,” said Lucia.
So in her fine art, all of these experiences are reflected.
“I like to see the scene alive. For everyone to enter and feel the magic of a fairytale. When I create a heart I like to give soul to the piece of art — there is the body of art that you can touch which is physical and the soul is in the vision, in the optical illusion but it has a deep meaning,” she pointed out.
She does not know why she loves rocks but one reason is that they are physical.
“With the theatre background, I like to create things that are real. They are actors, they are not flat on the wall because they also have a physical personality,” she noted.
The visitor can become Alice in Wonderland for a few minutes.
To make the visit even more interesting, a riddle was also highlighted as the main point of interest wherein during their visit, they can also get busy decoding the riddle and where it leads.
The Riddle Goes as Follows:
I am a quiet strength forming; Power of the feminine rising; My art reflects the ancient; And ideas echo the future.
I am pillars of grace; For I hold Nizwa close to my heart; Find my face, my art; and feel the peace; for I am Nizwa rising.
Find me & become the king of the moment!
