Colours run deep in our veins

If it makes you feel good let it be the colour for you. There are enough boundaries so now let us enjoy the shades and lights it reflects

Have you ever wondered why it is the colour you like to wear and look at?

There must be some emotional connection or memories. It could even be just an instinct.

There are warm colours and cold colours and this is not just for clothes and walls but for your face too.

As a child I used to ask my parents what were the colors they liked best. It all started with the collection of sketch pens they gifted me.

Obviously when we begin to play with colours we begin to notice them every where. The colour attracts you but try to get a bit of it for yourself. The difficult task defines that species - wild and will only grow where it wants to. Do not expect it to be a decorative plant.

We begin to notice the distinct colour of camels and it is based on the shades of this colour that distinguishes the camels of Dhofar that provides camel milk - the camels with darker shades. Somehow the shades of camel are what the mountains sport too so do most of the forts and watchtowers in Oman.

We learn at a very young age to associate blue with water although the actual water is colourless unless it is muddy, then it is brown in colour or if it has algae then it is green. So why do we often see water as blue? The sky?

Like us, water too reflects our surroundings. We too react and respond to our surroundings. How many colours do you think we must be reflecting?

We are supposed to have energy points in our body that are referred to as chakras and these chakras have been identified with specific colours. For instance the heart chakra is specified as green in colour, throat chakra as blue, third eye as Indigo and crown chakra as violet.

In modern society we also associate causes with colours. For instance, breast cancer is represented in pink colour; Alzheimer’s with purple; blue and yellow are colours used for Down Syndrome awareness; and blue for diabetes. The list is endless and people wear these colours to show their support.

Would you believe there are colours linked with characteristics for instance if someone is lazy - it is light blue. Yellow is the colour of friendship, and of course you know the colour of love is red. The blue symbolises loyalty, confidence, trust, truth and intelligence.

It is a safe colour to wear at the workplace and is often considered as a corporate colour. Red is bold and adventurous and I suppose black is conservative and always safe.

Do you see how deep colours run in our veins? Whether we like it or not and realise it or not colours play a prominent role in our lives.

Now there are emojis on your phones and there are hearts in different colours. Each heart colour could convey a message.

But shall we keep that for another day because it is another story altogether.

For now let us just enjoy colours for what they are — if it makes you feel good let it be the colour for you. There are enough boundaries so now let us enjoy the shades and lights it reflects.
