Muscat: The tropical storm 'Biparjoy' situating 1,140 km from the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman has intensified into a category 1 cyclone, the Oman Meteorology Office said on Wednesday.

The agency clarified that the current situation is classified as a first-class tropical cyclone.

The tropical system was first located in the middle of the Arabian Sea at latitude 12.9 north and longitude 66.4 east, and it is about 1,140 km from the coast of the Sultanate of Oman.

The wind speed around the center is estimated from 65 to 82 knots with a slight It is expected to develop into a second-class tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

The authority confirmed the absence of any direct effects on the airspace of the Sultanate of Oan during the next three days, and some indicators still show that the airspace of the Sultanate of Oman may be affected by this situation after the middle of next week.
