MUSCAT: Al Mouj Golf is celebrating the achievement of being named as one of the Best Golf Courses in the World in the Golf World Top 100 panel’s annual review of courses which are open to the public.
This is the second time the panel has carried out an assessment of ‘accessible’ courses which can be played by non-members and where according to Golf World Top 100 editor Chris Bertram, ‘having one of the best layouts on planet Earth’ is key to achieving a ranking.
Situated within premier lifestyle destination Al Mouj Muscat, Al Mouj Golf’s latest accolade was announced in Today’s Golfer magazine and adds another World 100 ranking to the oceanfront club having made it into the Top 100 Golf magazine’s line up twice before and in the publication National Club Golfer.
Al Mouj is one of only two courses in the Middle East to appear on this latest Golf World Top 100 list which was compiled by a panel of 13 experts drawn from every continent and different areas of the game, from former professional players and renowned course architects, to greenkeepers and golfing journalists.
In the review, Chris Bertram describes Al Mouj Golf as “stunning” adding that “the way it mixes strong golf holes with a spectacular setting gets it into this Top 100 for the first time”.
Nasser bin Masoud al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat says: “To see Al Mouj Golf placed by experts in the world’s best 100 courses is extremely gratifying and testimony to the hard work and commitment of the whole team who, every day, make playing at our unique course memorable for all, from members and visitors to tourists alike.'
“This ranking will certainly help fly the flag not only for our beautiful, welcoming club but for Oman as a wonderful destination for holidays which sits within our strategy of offering world-class experiences to support the growth of our country’s sports tourism and leisure sector.”
Designed by golfing legend Greg Norman, Al Mouj Golf opened in 2012 as Oman’s first links-style course which set along 2km of coastline offers a challenging and rewarding game of golf for players of all standards. It was the first in the Sultanate of Oman to achieve PGA status and has hosted the Oman Open (European Tour) Championship on three occasions, and it was the first in the region to host the Oman Stage of the Asian Tour, the pan-Asian competition supported by LIV Golf.
The club is also recognised worldwide for its long-term commitment to environmental and sustainability awareness and implementation, and is one of only 20 across the globe to have been awarded dual certification for its work on nature, resource preservation and the community. Home to 173 different bird species, it has become a haven for wildlife.
