Consumer Protection Authority launched a campaign titled 'Your awareness protects you' to limit the supply of prohibited goods.
It is part of the efforts to control misuse by some suppliers and hold the violators accountable.
The campaign is done in cooperation with a number of government institutions as part of CPA's series of awareness campaigns that it is implementing during the current year to enhance awareness among consumers and suppliers alike in various fields. It will continue until the end of June of this year.
Saif bin Nasser al Rawahi, Director of the Communication and Media Department at the Consumer Protection Authority, said: 'The campaign seeks to enhance the knowledge and legal background of suppliers about prohibited goods and related decisions and penalties for violating them, in addition to introducing consumers to prohibited goods and their dangers, and strengthening their national duty to report any practices associated with it, which would contribute to reaching a stable and safe market for all. '
The campaign includes the implementation of a number of awareness activities and programmes in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to ensure that its educational messages reach the different target groups. Awareness lectures will be organised in government, private and other academic institutions. Also, there will be direct meetings with suppliers and workers in commercial activities related to prohibited goods.
An electronic guide of prohibited goods will also be launched to serve as a reference for consumers and suppliers to identify prohibited goods, their dangers, and the penalties for those who deal with them. In addition, various awareness and knowledge messages will be broadcast through social networks and external advertising outlets on the main roads of the Muscat Governorate.
Consumer protection efforts are meant to monitor the markets, control everything that may harm consumers' health and safety or detract from their rights, and take legal measures against violators. It also appeals to consumers to report any violations they may notice in the markets through the various communication channels of the Authority.
Consumers confirm that awareness campaigns are of great importance in providing special protection for the consumer and raising community awareness regarding the supply of prohibited goods and ways to avoid and combat it in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
