Campaign to enhance economic competitiveness in Oman

Muscat: Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion is taking proactive steps to enhance economic competitiveness and improve the business environment in the Sultanate of Oman. In collaboration with key entities such as the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), the Authority for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), the Ministry's Center for Competition Protection and Prevention of Monopoly is launching a comprehensive awareness campaign titled 'Together to Ensure Freedom of Competition.'

From May 28 to September 18, 2023, this campaign aims to educate citizens across all governorates of Oman about the vital role played by the Center for Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention. It seeks to promote awareness of the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Law, issued under Royal Decree 67/2014, along with its corresponding executive regulations outlined in Ministerial Resolution 18/2021.

Additionally, the campaign will emphasize the significance of the Unified Anti-Dumping Law established by Royal Decree 20/2015. The overarching objective is to raise awareness, bolster economic competitiveness, and cultivate a favorable business environment within the Omani market, ultimately contributing to overall economic growth.

The campaign will commence its activities in the Al-Buraimi Governorate on May 28, 2023, specifically at the branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry situated in Al-Buraimi.

Through this initiative, the awareness campaign seeks to familiarize individuals with the business landscape and the specialized services provided by the Center. It aims to underscore the crucial role of competition protection and anti-monopoly laws in driving economic growth, fostering competitiveness, and nurturing a legal culture centered around fair competition and the prevention of monopolistic practices. The campaign endeavors to educate various stakeholders, including consumers, merchants, and investors, about the provisions of these laws and the fundamental principles of a free market, which are fundamental for cultivating a thriving competitive economy. Moreover, the campaign will highlight the importance of the anti-dumping law in safeguarding Oman's national industry against detrimental practices in international trade.

Furthermore, the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Center plans to organize training and educational programs designed to promote fair competition and its protection within the market. These efforts aim to contribute to economic growth in Oman by fostering transparency, integrity, impartiality, and accountability in economic transactions. The Ministry, through the Competition Protection Center, remains dedicated to safeguarding the interests of market participants, ensuring justice and competitiveness, providing consumers with freedom of choice, promoting economic pluralism, and maintaining a fair and competitive market structure. The Center also prioritizes enforcing compliance with the law, regulations, decisions, and relevant instructions, thus creating a level playing field for all stakeholders involved.
