Pensions account for RO 48 million per month

The Civil Service Employees Pension Fund's (CSEPF) report states that there was a slight increase of 0.8 per cent in the number of retirements in 2023 compared to 2022, with a total of 620 employees retiring. Among the retirees, males account for 51 per cent, while females account for 49 per cent. On average, the retirees were 49 years old, had worked for 23 years, and received a retirement salary of RO 838.
As of 2023, the number of retirees stood at 78,557, with 73 per cent male and only 27 per cent female. On average, the retirees were 50 years old, had worked for 22 years, and received an average salary of RO 609. The total amount of pension salaries paid out is RO 48 million.
The report includes information on the overall status of beneficiaries of the fund, indicating that as of March 2023, there were a total of 93,985 beneficiaries. Among them, 54,666 were still living, while 39,319 were eligible inheritors.
Muscat Governorate registered the highest number of beneficiaries from CSEPF with 14,787 making up 27 per cent of the total pensioner number, followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 7,623 (14 per cent), Al Batinah North Governorate (7,051), Al Batinah South Governorate (5,377), Dhofar Governorate (5,294), Al Sharqiyah South Governorate (4,883), Al Sharqiyah North (3,807) Al Dhahirah Governorate (3,010), Al Buraimi Governorate (1,397) Musandam Governorate (1,095), and Al Wusta Governorate (342).
It is important to note that back in 2017, the number of retirees was 52,803, and the total amount of salaries paid out was 23,752,165. From 2017 until 2023, 60 per cent of the salaries were allocated to the daughters and sons of deceased beneficiaries, while 33 per cent was given to the widows, and only 7 per cent went to the widowers, mothers, sisters, and brothers of the deceased.
In the year 2020, there was a significant increase in the number of retirements, with a total of 86,418 retired, representing a 17 per cent increase from the previous year.

These individuals work in the administrative units of the Council's countries, as well as in its bodies and public institutions, subject to the civil retirement systems in the Council's countries. As of the end of January 2022, there were 1,405 retirees from this system.
