Oman and France to explore opportunities in Blue Economy

The Sultanate of Oman and France will be exploring opportunities in the fisheries and agro-food sector with special focus on potential investments in the Duqm Fisheries Multipurpose Port Project.

In connection with this, the Omani and French stakeholders are meeting for a business conference titled “Omani-French Opportunities in Fisheries Sector” on Monday, May 15, at the Oman Arab Bank, according to Marie Eliçagaray, Coordinator of the Omani French Friendship Association (OFA).

“The meeting will basically focus on exploring the global opportunities in Oman’s fisheries sector, particularly through the Duqm Fisheries Multipurpose Port Project which is a collaboration between the Port of Lorient in France and Fisheries Development Oman Company and the aim of the meeting is to connect stakeholders from France and Oman in different economic sectors and to highlight what are the investments to be made,” a statement from the OFA has said.

Eng Yaqoob al Busaidi, Under-Secretary for Fishing Resources at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, will be the guest of honour while Maurice Benoish, CEO, SEM Lorient Keroman, and Louis Le Bourlout, Shareholder, SAS Keroman, will be attending from France.

The panel session comprises of Maurice Benoish, President, SAS Lorient Keroman, Louis Le Bourlout, Shareholder, SAS Lorient Keroman, and four French panelists who will represent French companies interested in the project, while from Oman side, Redha Bait Faraj, General Director of Agriculture and Fish Marketing, MAFWR, Nabil al Bimani, CEO, Fisheries Development Oman, Dr Issa bin Mohammed al Farsi, Director of the Fisheries Development Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Salim al Harthy, Director, Fish Quality Control Centre, will be present at the panel. Ahmed bin Saleh al Harthy, Director of Oman Vision 2040 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, will be the moderator of the session.

As many as 100 guests, comprising government officials, French and Omani companies in the fisheries, agro-food industries, shipbuilding and ship repair, valuation of products, training in trades in the fish sector, assessment, and management of marine resources, water and logistics sectors, and any other business related to Duqm area development, politics and technical actors from France, Bretagne Pole Naval, which brings together 280 Breton companies in the shipbuilding and maintenance sector, construction company, seafood research and development company, financials, trainers in the professions of the sea, representative of Ifremer, fisheries specialists, Fabrice Loher (Mayor of Lorient and President of the Agglomeration: 250,000 Inhabitants), and OFA’s members will be present both in person and online at the event.
