MUSCAT, MAY 7
Oman’s Al Nahda club team is set to meet Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli team on Tuesday, in the first leg of the third preliminary round of the King Salman Cup for Arab Football Clubs. The match will take place in the Benina Martyrs Stadium in the city of Benghazi. The return match is scheduled for May 29 at Al Buraimi Sports Complex.
Al Nahda secured their spot in this stage after defeating the Palestine Club Shabab Al Khalil with two clean goals in the Al Buraimi match. The Palestinian team did not attend the Amman International Stadium in the second leg. Meanwhile, Al Ahly advanced after eliminating Egypt’s El Gaish Team, winning the first in Cairo and drawing in the second in Benghazi.
The winner of this match will qualify for the second group, to play alongside Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, Morocco’s Wydad and Qatar’s Al Sadd teams. The presence of these top clubs makes the group the strongest among the championship groups.
Al Nahda are currently in a stage of technical stability, as they lead the Omantel League and are close to winning the League Shield. They are seeking to achieve the double after winning the His Majesty’s Cup. Al Nahda have all the ingredients that qualify it to return with a positive result before going and qualifying for the group stage that will be held in Saudi Arabia.
Al Nahda Club team departed on Saturday to the Republic of Libya. After arriving, the Al Nahda team conducted a training session in Benghazi in preparation for the match.
