Weather update: Met warns of heavy rains today

Muscat: Oman's Met Department on Thursday issued a weather alert warning of heavy thundershowers in the coming hours across governorates.
'Heavy thundershowers are expected during the afternoon and evening hours over the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, and parts of Muscat and Al Wusta', a statement from the agency said.
Parts of Al Dakhylia and South Al Batinah also expected to receive rainfall ranging between 20mm to 50mm.
The Civil Aviation Authority adviced all to take precautions during thundershowers, and not to cross Wadis and avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.
Alerts:
1. Heavy rainfalls expected may range between 20 — 50 mm may cause
flash floods (Wadis).
2. Strong downdrafts with speed pf 15 to 35 kt (28-64 km/h).
3. Poor horizontal visibility due to dust rising during thundershowers
