Upper air trough brings rains

The Wilayat of Samayil received rains on Saturday evening starting off the impact of upper air trough as the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre had predicted rains from Saturday evening until Tuesday. Cumulonimbus cloud activity was seen over parts of the governorates of Al Wusta, Dhofar and Al Dhahirah, and Hajar Mountains, with chances of sporadic rain, sometimes thundershowers, accompanied by active winds.

The weather forecaster said: “Samayil received rain and other parts expected to receive rain are in Dhofar and Al Wusta. But on Sunday we will see the expansion of trough and might experience rain in mountainous areas of Muscat such as Al Amerat and Qurayat and of course the Hajar Mountains.”

The aerial images showed the flow and formation of clouds over most of the governorates, and the Oman Met Office stated that there are chances of thunderstorms over the Hajar Mountains.

The general weather forecast for Sunday is partly cloudy skies over most of the governorates with chances of isolated thundershowers over the Hajar Mountains and parts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates. There are also chances of low level clouds or fog during late night or early morning over parts of South Al Sharqiyah, Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates.

Due to active winds there are chances of dust in desert areas.

Wadis are expected to flow and caution is to be exercised while approaching low-lying areas and the Civil Aviation Authority has warned against crossing flowing wadis. During this period, strong downdraft is expected. Satellite images on Saturday morning show flow of high/medium clouds over the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar, and the condensation of low clouds over parts of the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta.

The Civil Aviation Authority has requested public to be cautious during the flow of wadis and to keep in mind fog and visibility before approaching sea.
