Fog might affect horizontal visibility, rains expected

Aerial images on Sunday from Oman Met Office showed the formation of cumulus clouds over parts of the Eastern Hajar Mountains and the surrounding areas.

Met Office has raised alert and caution as horizontal visibility might reduce during fog and thundershowers.

The Met Office stated that there are chances for the expansion of the formation of the clouds resulting in sporadic rain during the upcoming days.

The weather forecast for Monday stated mainly clear skies over most of the governorates with chances for cloud development over the Al Hajar Mountains towards the afternoon. The week began with the prevalence of low clouds and fog over parts of the coasts of the Sea of Oman and parts of the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta.

However, for Monday, the weather experts say there are chances of late-night to early-morning low- level clouds or fog patches over parts of South Al Sharqiyah, AL Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

The chances of the formation of low clouds/fog will continue with a decrease in the level of horizontal visibility at times during the late night and early morning on Monday over parts of the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Wusta, Dhofar and Al Dhahirah, and on parts of the coastal areas of the governorates of Muscat, South and North Al Batinah.

Along the coastal areas of the Oman Sea, winds are expected to be easterly to northeasterly light to moderate, while over the rest of the governorates, it is forecast to be easterly to southeasterly light to moderate.

Sea condition is reported to be slightly over most of the coasts with a maximum wave height of 1.25 metres.
