104 players in field for Oman Chess Championship

The ninth edition of Oman Individual Chess Championship for age groups kicked off on Thursday. The championship, being organised by the Oman Chess Committee at the Sports Complex in Ibri, will continue until January 29.
As many as 104 male and female players representing 18 clubs, namely Ibri, Salalah, Masirah, Al Nahda, Yanqul, Bahla, Al Shabab, Saham, Bidiya, Al Kamil W'al Wafi, Al Salam, Oman Club, Qurayat, Izki, Al Seeb, Muscat, Madha and Nizwa, will compete in the event.
The tournament follows the Fide regulations and laws and the players will play each other in Swiss format. The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system of 7 rounds for 5 age groups: 8 years, 10 years, 12 years, 14 years and 16 years.
The organising committee will present medals and cash prizes in each category. The tournament is planned to be held annually.
During this edition, top players will be chosen to represent the Oman national team for the age groups, as well as to participate in the international camp in Al Ain Club next month in Al Buraimi.
