‘Zafarana’ claims main qualifying race in Barka

Muscat: Under the support of the Royal Camels Corps and organised by Oman Camel Racing Federation, the third qualifying race competitions started at early morning on Tuesday at Al Fulaij Camel Racing Track in the Wilayat of Barka. The races will continue until January 26.
This is the third and last qualifying race to allow the participants to take part at the final race festival in March, as part of the 20th edition of annual camel races for the season 2022-23.
The first day included 21 rounds for 3 km allocated to the ‘hagayeg’ category, 2 years old, while 14 rounds for females and 7 rounds for male camels.
As many as 21 camels will qualify from this category from 21 rounds. The top three winners from the first to the fifth rounds, and the top two from the sixth to eighth rounds will make the mark.
The first round was snatched by ‘Zafarana’ owned by Hamid bin Mohammed al Jahafi, followed by ‘Maskhora’ owned by Talib bin Ali al Maharbi, and in third was ‘Shawahin’ owned by Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Daree.
In the second round, ‘Corner’, owned by Saeed bin Mohammed al Harthy, took the top prize. ‘Hamloula’, owned by Ali bin Rashid al Omari, came in second and ’Mahaba’ finished third, owned by Abdullah bin Saeed al Ghufaili.
‘Al Sultanah’ claimed the third round, owned by Mubarak bin Amer al Habsi, and in the second place was ‘Al Dana’ owned by Saeed bin Nasser al Zaree, while the third place was won by ‘Mayassa’ Nasser bin Ali al Ghufaili.
In the fourth round, ‘Mugamara’ was ranked first, owned by Ghosn bin Saeed al Musallami, ‘Takreem’ took the second place, owned by Dawood bin Ali al Hedawi. ‘Shawahin’ finished third, owned by Khamis bin Mohammed al Mukhaibi.
‘Nujood’ won the fifth round, owned by Rashid bin Obaid al Wahibi, while ‘Humlola’ won the second place, owned by Hamid bin Abdullah al Omari and third-placed ‘Dhagt’ belonged to Salem bin Saeed al Muharbi.
The sixth round was claimed by ‘Ariaf’ owned by Saeed bin Hamid al Jahafi, where second-placed ‘Menwh’ belonged to Hamad al Zaree.
In the seventh round, ‘Gazer’ came on top, owned by Rushoud bin Khuwaiter al Malki, and ’Mawaseel’ achieved the second place, owned by Nayef bin Salem al Wahibi.
‘Wasayef’ was top ranked the eighth round, owned by Hamoud bin Hamad al Amri, followed by ‘Marasil’ for its owner Hamoud bin Abdullah al Maharbi.
The competition continues for the second day with 20 rounds on Wednesday, 13 rounds will be for ‘lagaya’ category (3 years old for 4 km), while seven rounds will be for ‘Yathaa’ category (4 years old for 5 km).
As many as 39 camels out of more than 500 camels will qualify for final race from both the categories.
