Muscat: Results of the inspection conducted by the State’s Audit Institution (SAI) for the year 2021 indicate the existence of many positive effects such as the money recovered as fines directly added to the
State Budget. The overall outcome was the realization of a financial surplus of about RO 76.5 million.
Out of 101 cases dealt with by the SAI, 31 cases were referred to Public Prosecution, 17 cases are still in the procedure and 53 cases are from the previous years.
Such cases also included entering data into a government information system in an illegal way, asking for a bribe, squandering public money, a state employee’s misuse of an official position, and a breach of job duties.
Court rulings were issued in the following cases:
A staff member has requested a bribe and abused their position for realizing an advantage for themselves or for others by facilitating the procedures of awarding some tenders and thus was financially benefited.
A commercial enterprise has signed fake employment contracts with a number of citizens who used those contracts to obtain labor permits.
The contracts were canceled after obtaining the required approval to recruit foreign workers
A number of employees have created a residential scheme that overlaps with plots of land owned by some citizens for the purpose of compensation and granting of residential plots
A staff member has falsified official and customary documents by providing incorrect documents and gaining personal interests and thus getting a commercial and residential plot of land as well as a residential one.
