Three-day camel race in Barka from today

Muscat: The third qualifying race for the final race of the annual festival of private camel racing in its 20th season 2022-23 will start on Tuesday at Al Fulaij Racecourse in Barka.
As many as 45 races will be held over three days starting on Tuesday. The first day will witness 19 rounds for the category of pilgrims for a distance of 4 km, 13 rounds are for Al Bakar, and 6 rounds are for Jadaan. From the 'Hajjaj' (pilgrim) category, Bakkar Al Nouq, who finish in the first three places from the first to the fifth rounds will qualify. In the sixth to the eighth rounds, the camels that rank first and second will make the mark.
The second day’s competitions include 17 races, 11 races are for the Al Laqaya category for a distance of 5 km, 8 runs for Al Bakar, and 3 for Al Jadaan. From the second round until the fourth round, the camels with the first three positions qualify. In addition to 6 runs for Al Jadaan for 6 km, 4 runs are for virgins, and 2 runs for Al Jadaan. The camels that finish in positions from the first to the tenth will qualify for the final race in the first round, while the camels that finish in the first places will qualify for the second and third rounds.
The competitions of the third day include seven rounds, three rounds are allocated to the Al Thanaya category for 8 km, including two rounds for the Al Bakar, and the camels that finish in the top 10 will qualify in the first round, and a round will be held for the Al Jadaan without qualification, and it will also include three rounds allocated to the Al Hawl category for the same distance.
In the first round, the camels that rank in top 20 will qualify, and a run for the Zamoul category for the same distance without qualifying. Two rounds will be held for the long-distance run for the Al Thanaya and Al Hawl categories with camels that finish in top 10 positions qualify.
Contest terms
The Royal Camel Corps announced general conditions for participation in the races. The participation is limited to purebred Omani camels wholly owned by Omani citizens, and it is strictly forbidden to activate with blood or use stimulants, electric shocks, and other prohibited stimuli. The Oman Camel Racing Federation will take undertakings not to use prohibited stimulants and stimulants of all kinds and forms as a condition for participating in the races.
The camels that win the first positions will be examined for all stimulants in all race runs, and in the event that stimulants are discovered, the award will be withheld, and the penalties stipulated in the regulations and laws approved by the Omani Camel Racing Federation, and the decision of the technical committees concerned with teething and analogy is considered enforceable according to the applicable law in this regard. It is also stipulated that the motorised rider’s protector should be placed under the base of the motorised vehicle, provided that it has thick and wide dimensions, and any mount whose owner does not comply with this condition will be excluded.
