OJA fetes participants of World IFJ Congress

 
Oman Journalist Association (OJA) held a ceremony on Monday to honour the committees, working teams and public and private establishments which participated in the “31st World IFJ Congress”, under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.

Dr Abdullah in his speech expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts undertaken by OJA and media persons for their contribution towards the success of the 31st World IFJ Congress, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman in May 2022.

In a statement to ONA, the minister valued the action taken by public and private media organisations in highlighting Oman’s potentials, notably in the tourism and investment sectors. He exhorted Omani journalists and media personnel to double efforts for promoting Oman’s regional and international capacities.

Thanking OJA for honouring Oman Observer, Abdullah bin Salim al Shueili, Editor-in-Chief, said: “Observer daily was able to cover various local, Gulf, Arab, and international developments, in a way that expresses the Omani approach that is far from exaggeration and capable of dealing objectively with all developments.”



Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak al Araimi, OJA President, in his speech said: “The annual ceremony of the Omani Journalists Association honours the official and private institutions and work teams that contributed to the success of the 31st Congress of International Federation of Journalists.”

He further added that OJA will continue to support media professionals throughout the country, and empower journalists and media professionals through the provision of programmes and activities that help them achieve the goals.”

Faiza bint Mohammed al Balushiyah, Editor-in-Chief, Shuoon Al Omaniya newspaper, said: “The honour embodies the keenness of the Ministry of Information and OJA to support press institutions, as their involvement in regional and international events contributes to the exchange of experiences to improve journalistic work and develop the skills of Omani journalists.”

She also thanked the Minister of Information, Dr Abdullah and the OJA for honouring Shuoon Al Omaniya among the participating teams.

They have arranged training and qualification programmes during the past five years, as has implemented more than 40 courses and training programmes inside the Sultanate of Oman and abroad, in prestigious press and media institutions, including Thomson Foundation in the UK, the Al Ahram Foundation in Egypt, Al Jazeera Institute in Qatar, and the Union of Arab News Agencies in Jordan, in addition to other high-level institutions in Tunisia and Morocco.



About 350 journalists representing federations, unions and associations from more than 100 countries from different continents of the world participated. The ceremony included a photo exhibition featuring photos taken during the 31st IFJ Congress — both the preparatory stage and the activities of the conference.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr Abdullah felicitated the participants, supporters, establishments and individuals who contributed to the success of the 31st World IFJ Congress.

The 31st Congress received local, regional and international attention as the most prominent press and media event in the Middle East, was held from May 31 to June 3, 2022.
