Over 50,000 books at ISC book festival

 
As many as 50,000 titles in English and Arabic in addition to 12 other different languages will be up for grabs at the third edition of the book festival organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC) under the aegis of Embassy of India as part of the celebrations of 75 years of Indian Independence.

The four-day fest will open from January 12 to 15 and will be held at the multipurpose hall of the Indian Social Club Oman in Darsait.

The public can visit the fair from 10 am to 10 pm.

According to the organisers, the event will be organised in association with Al Bhaj Books, a leading book distributor in Oman for more than 30 years.

The fair is being conducted as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and will also feature acclaimed Omani authors who will be feted during the four-day book festival.

Dr Said al Saqlawi, acclaimed poet and Chairperson of Oman Writer’s Society; Dr Ali Mehdi, member of Oman Environment Association and Founder of ‘Penned Thoughts’; Nasra al Adawi, award winning writer from Oman, Jassim Issa Obeid al Qartoubi, another renowned Omani poet will share the podium with Dr P Mohammed Ali, founder and former Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Galfar, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of National University, Dr Sivkumar Manickam, Chairman, Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman, will grace the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking to the media, Babu Rajendran, Hon General Secretary, ISC Oman said they were proud to present the 3rd edition of book fest and a plethora of events are lined up for students as well as the public which includes book launch and panel discussion.

“Apart from the 50,000 books up for grabs, we will be hosting book recommendations, panel discussions and book launches of authors based in Oman which is organised in coordination with Oman Book Lovers Group,” he said, adding that a number of competitions such as colouring contest, poetry recitation, short story writing and book review have been put together for the children.

“We have included latest books for all ages including fiction, non-fiction, children’s activity and story books, academic, study guides and grammar books, among others, said P M Shouckath Ali, Managing Director of Al Bhaj books, adding that it was a privilege to be a part of the Book Fest conducted by the ISC Oman under the aegis of Embassy of India in Sultanate of Oman.
