Impact of upper air trough to begin today

Muscat: Three days of rains are expected again in the Sultanate of Oman from today till January 12 due to an upper air trough.
The Civil Aviation Authority has advised all to take precautions during rainfall and flow of wadis especially to check the visibility and sea state before sailing.
The trough is likely to affect the Sultanate of Oman during these three days and the latest weather updates and analysis of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center indicates a chance of cloud advection resulting in isolated rain and occasional thundershowers over the Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi.
According to the statement, the impact is expected to gradually extend (towards the second day) to cover the governorates of South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Sharqiyah.
The expected accumulation of isolated rainfall is to range between 10 to 60 mm and accordingly flow of wadis and flash floods are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The fresh downdraft wind speed is expected to be between 15 to 25 kt.
The sea state is classified as moderate to rough along Musandam and the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman with maximum wave height ranging between two to three meters.
On Monday morning there was a spread of low clouds over parts of the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the Hajar Mountains
According to the general weather forecast, cloudy to partly cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday over Musandam, North al Batinah and Al Buraimi governorates with chances of isolated rain and occasionally thundershowers associated with downdraft winds. Mainly clear skies over the rest of the governorates with a chance of Medium and high clouds advection over northern governorates. Chance of late night and early morning low clouds or fog patches over governorates of South Al Sharqiya, Al Wusta and Dhofar.
The maximum temperature recorded is 28 degrees Celsius experienced in Fahud, Marmul, and Thumrait, while Jabal Shams recorded a maximum of six degrees Celsius and a low of two degrees Celsius.
