Hotel revenues soar as tourism sector posts strong recovery

Luxury hotels across the Sultanate of Oman registered a remarkable 91.7 per cent growth in revenues, which climbed to RO 161.262 million for the first 11 months of this year.
According to the National Center for Statistics and Information (NSCI), 3 to 5-star rated properties posted a 33.9 per cent increase in guests during the Jan – Nov 2022 period, compared to the same period of 2021. As many as 1.449 million guests stayed at Omani luxury hotels this year, up from 1.082 million during the corresponding period of 2021. The occupancy rate also recorded a growth of 18.2 per cent, Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a report.
Guests from the GCC states surged 418.8 per cent to 145,192 this year, up from 27,985 last year. This was followed by European tourists, whose numbers jumped 327 per cent to 307,268 this year, up from 71,951 last year.
Omanis made up a significant number of hotel guests as well. However, their numbers declined 14.9 per cent to 643,859 this year, down from 756,661 last year.
As of the end of November 2022, the number of American guests reached 52,625, representing an increase of 185.1 per cent compared to the same period in 2021. Hotel guests from African states totaled 7,807, with a growth rate of 98.4 per cent, while those from Asian countries increased by 53 per cent to 190,700, up from 124,675 during the same period in 2021.
