AI contest winners to get financial, technical support

Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, presented cash awards to winners of the Artificial Intelligence Talents Competition 2022 in Muscat on Wednesday.

The event was held in association with the Omani Intellectual Property Association and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Several government, private and other institutions took part in the event.

The competition aims to encourage grades 6-12 students to conduct research on artificial intelligence, work on data analysis and future predictions, and encourage innovation in clean and renewable energy, food security and resource conservation.

Dr Ali bin Khamis al Alawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Association for Intellectual Property, spoke on the topic while, the Innovation Oasis Company presented a presentation on the various stages of the competition.



The first 10 winning projects were given cash prizes, and certificates were distributed to successful participants.

Al Alawi said, 'This national competition aims to spread awareness on the importance of creating innovative solutions, and to produce applied research capable of finding realistic solutions.'

The AI and IPR competition winners will get financial and technical support.

'In addition, it encourages entrepreneurship, studies and research related to finding solutions to society's challenges, introducing the importance of intellectual property nationally, and disseminating it among all groups and segments.'

Safia al Rashidiyah of Innovation Oasis Company, said: 'The award fields have been diversified to include various problems; pollution, food security, climate change, safe disposal of waste, recycling.'
