Italian bio and agro-food research excellence presented at SQU

Sultan Qaboos University hosted Professor Francesco Canganella of Tuscia University in Viterbo for two seminars on dual agrobiology and biomedical issues for human space exploration as well as on the role of microbial ecology and industrial applications.
The lecture highlighted the latest researches conducted by his lab at Tuscia University on applied microbiology and highlighted new opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration on sustainable development, such as biodegradation of agrofood waste and use of microbial biomolecules for industrial purposes.
“The Embassy of Italy welcomes the initiative as an enabler for further bilateral collaboration between Italy and Oman. As a key player in Italy for advanced studies in agriculture and agrofood, Tuscia University is leading research on sustainable issues and its center of excellence for agrofood, forestry, environment, and biology, providing state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories for innovation. Sharing this know-how with Oman can be beneficial to support the expansion of the agriculture in the Sultanate,” commented Alessandro Garbellini of the Embassy of Italy.
Professor Canganella added: “Tuscia University is ready to work together with Omani researchers and students on new technologies for sustainable farming in areas with water scarcity. The scholarships just granted under the current Erasmus+ programme will soon provide opportunities to study and work together.”
