Doha: The Egyptian-born, Qatar-based influential Islamist cleric Youssef al Qaradawi died at the age of 96 on Monday, his website said.
He died in Qatar, where he has been living in exile for decades.
Born in Egypt in 1926, Al Qaradawi has been a controversial cleric over the years.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday in Doha, according to the International Union of Muslim Scholars, which he founded in 2004.
