Role of Higher Education Institutions in Qualifying Job Seekers
MUSCAT: A seminar titled “Role of higher education institutions in training jobseekers” marked the conclusion of the 4th edition of jobseekers qualification programme codenamed “You Can”.

The closing ceremony saw the signing of memoranda of understanding with a number of universities and colleges to prepare jobseekers to join the labour market. The institutions include Global College of Engineering and Technology, Majan University College and Arab Open University.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Organised by Youth Vision Company in cooperation with BP Oman, the programme earns the participants the basic skills needed by the labour market.

HH Sayyidah Dr Muna bint Fahd al Said, Chairperson of Youth Vision Company underscored the importance of the MoUs in inculcating labour culture vision. She added that, through the programme, students gain important life skills prior to graduation. She hoped that more universities and colleges would follow suit.

As many as 200 participated in the programme, among them 25 qualified to the labour life skills stage and 60 per cent got jobs after the end of the programme.

Besides interactive seminars and workshops, the programme comprised special tests, job-interview simulations, review of biodata by HRD experts and three-months training in public and private sector establishments. -- ONA
