The book titled 'Sri Lanka-Oman Relations: Past, Present and Future' chronicles relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman.

The book is authored by Omar L Ameer Ajwad, the outgoing Ambassador of Sri Lanka.

'This book is a testament not only to the friendship strength of the Sultanate of Oman and Sri Lanka, but also to the Sri Lankan ambassador Ameer Ajwad's strength of character, enthusiasm and diligence with which he undertakes life's pursuits,' Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy says in his foreword of the book.

Although Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman's diplomatic journey spans just over four decades, the book narrates bonds that go back centuries into the mists of time. Ameer Ajwad presents a comprehensive review of collaborations between the countries -- from hockey to fruit, International Tea Day to cricket tournaments, and fisheries to technology.

'His book demonstrates a deep-rooted connection between our peoples. It has underpinned every step of our countries' journey,' Sayyid Badr commented in the foreword.

“The objective behind this book is to reinvigorate the past, highlight the present and chart pathways for the future by providing relevant information to foster deeper economic engagement between the two countries,' said Ajwad.

The book sketches Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman's relationship in five chapters that bring out its past, illustrate its present and forecast its future.

The fifth chapter of the book looks at the future potential that needs to be tapped. It provides vital information extracted from official sources of different entities in both countries.

It brings together expert opinions highlighting the opportunities in different sectors, providing readers and potential investors’ awareness. The chapter also highlights the achievements and initiatives of the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman.

If looking at the future is exciting, taking a glimpse at the historical links is intriguing. The ports of Sri Lanka have been strong links in the maritime trade in the past, the book illustrates.

'The importance of the ports can be seen in the silk route and spice trade,' he pointed out while speaking to the Observer.

The book was released to mark the 40th anniversary (February 17, 2021) of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman.

The 164-page book, published by Black and White Media and Services, was launched at the Diplomatic Institute of the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman in the presence of senior officials of the Foreign Ministry, ambassadors, diplomats, representatives of the Sri Lankan community in the country and media representatives.
