Muscat: Dr Shihab Aldin bin Ahmed al Riyami is attending the 21st Asian Men’s U-20 Volleyball Championship which is underway in Bahrain and will conclude on Monday. Al Riyami’s role at the ongoing Asian volleyball event is a member of the technical committee which comprises Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) members. Al Riyami has been a member at the AVC since 2012. The selection of al Riyami as a technical committee member was based on his wide coaching experience.
Dr Shihab said this is his fifth time at the Asian events. “The role of the technical committee begins ahead of the event through conducting inspection visits to the facilities that will host the championship. The technical committee was in charge of the ranking of the teams and distributing those teams in the right pools for the tournament’s draw which occurred ahead of the championship. A technical meeting of the team managers run by the technical committee gives a detailed explanation to all the team managers prior to the championship to clarify all the event’s rules and regulations,” he said.
Dr Shihab, also Oman’s FIVB International Volleyball coach instructor, said this participation in Asian Men’s U-20 Volleyball Championship is another essential milestone for him. “Attending these events will add valuable technical experience to me as I was involved in different roles and tasks during the championship period. Moreover, working beside the multinational experienced technical committee members from different part of the world offers new lessons.'
At the Asian Men’s U-20 Volleyball Championship, India beat Bahrain 25-22, 25-19, 26-28, 26-24 to move into the semis. Title holders, Iran, finished on top of Pool B and ensured their presence in the semifinals while India came in second place.
