Dhofar is experiencing one of the best Khareef seasons in terms of weather and return of the tourists after the pandemic. The festival this year has been providing opportunities for the youth.
However the weather and the rain has also brought in concerns of safety for the authorities where they briefly had to close access and reopened Wadi Darbat, one of the favourite destinations for tourists visiting Dhofar any time of the year, especially during monsoon.
The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority states, “We draw the attention of the valued visitors of Dhofar about reopening the site for all to Wadi Darbat with an emphasis on adherence to public safety guidelines.”
Social media platforms have been showcasing personal experiences of individuals. One important aspect the holiday makers have to keep in mind is not to indulge in risks in the name of adventure.
Dhofar Governorate Police Command summoned a tourist and stopped him after a video clip was circulated showing him walking on the edge of a mountain at risk, and legal procedures had been taken against him, according to the officials.
The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority is continuing its efforts to secure tourist sites in the Governorate of Dhofar. The authority also pointed out that one of the causes of drowning accidents is swimming in water pools, “So save your life and the lives of your children.”
Many have been urging the public to use life jackets when swimming or visiting water bodies.
Khareef Salalah 2022 also sees creativity of youth in many ways as has been displayed at Lamer Mugsayil and Taqah. Visitors have been raving about the facilities and experiences in the Wilayat Taqah during the night. A distinct feature this year has been the availability of boat rides at Khors and wadis.
Artist Ayed entertained his audience at the Al Morouj Theatre during the weekend bringing back events at the prominent location for events.
The weekend also saw the inauguration of Salalah Food Festival, to the delight of visitors as it provides a choice of a variety of cuisines. Considered as the largest food festival in Khareef, is organised by Dhofar Municipality and the activities of the Salalah Food Festival is a result of cooperation between the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Dhofar Municipality and a number of government and private agencies.
While Dhofar’s natural attractions are all popular destinations, science enthusiasts this year can indulge in an exclusive out of this world experience through the meteorite exhibition in the Sultanate of Oman that includes a number of rare meteorites of global importance, including the lunar meteorite, the Martian meteorite, in addition to the iron meteorite.
The exhibition began from July 19 and will continue until September 18 at the Museum of the Land of Frankincense in the Governorate of Dhofar.
For motor enthusiasts there is go karting held at the Celebration Square in Salalah daily from 3 pm to 10 pm, with Sunday dedicated for families and Wednesday from 12 pm to 4 pm for women only.
