Oman athletics team clinches 10 medals at West Asian Youth meet

MUSCAT, JULY 13The Oman national teams won 10 medals including three gold, three silver and four bronze after strong performances in the second edition of the West Asian Youth Championship in Lebanon.

The Oman national team star Mobin al Kindi won the gold medal in the hammer throwing competition, while Alia al Mughiriyah won the gold in long jump.

Also, she added a silver medal in the high jump. The player Namir al Busaidy won the silver medal in the high jump competition, the runner Alaa al Zadjali won the bronze medal in the 100 metres race, while the national walking team player Khaled al Siyabi won the bronze medal in the 1000 metres race in his first overseas participation. While the player Maryam al Shukailiya, won the gold for overthrowing the hammer, and the player Afnan al Balushi won the silver medal in the same competition.

As for the runner Ahmed al Abdulsalam won the bronze in the 200-metre race, the relay team settled for the bronze medal in the 4x400M relay race.

OMAN PARTICIPATION

On the other hand, the Oman national team participated in the speed, throw and jump competitions, where Khaled al Siyabi participated in 10,000m race, Ahmed al Abdulsalam participated in the 110 metre hurdles, the runners Muayyad al Salameen and Ahmed al Abdulsalam participated in the 200 metre race.

The runners Muayyad al Salami and Hamza al Jabri participated in the 400 metre race, and in the 800 metre race Abdulaziz al Habsi participated.

In the 1,500 metre race was the runner Adnan al Shezawi, also in the high jump competition, Namir al Busaidy and Ayham al Hosani, while in the hammer throwing contest, was the thrower Mubeen al Kindi. As for the 4x400 metre race were the team, including runners Hamza al Jabri, Muayyad al Salami, Abdulaziz al Habsi, Adnan al Shezawi and Ahmed al Abdulsalam.

As for the women team participants, runners Alaa al Zadjalya and Sheikha al Hina’a participated in the 100 metre race and Alaa al Zadjali in the 200 metre competition.

In the long and high jump competition were Alia al Mughiriya and Sheikha al Hina, and in the hammer throw competition, the two shooters Afnan al Balushi and Maryam al Shukaili. At the end of the tournament, Syria won first place with 21 medals, 9 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze, while Qatar came in runner-up with 19 medals 8 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze. While Iraq came third with 25 medals, seven gold, 12 silver and six bronze, while Kuwait was ranked fourth with 18 medals, six gold, six silver and six bronze. Lebanon was ranked fifth with 20 medals including 6 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze, while Jordan was ranked sixth with 8 medals 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.

Meanwhile, Oman was ranked seventh with 10 medals including 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze, while Yemen came in eighth place with 5 medals including 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze and Palestine was ranked ninth and last with only one silver medal.
