Raoum becomes first Omani to participate in international karate meet

Muscat: Raoum bint Hamad al Fazariyah is the first karate player to represent the Oman national team in foreign forums, after winning a number of titles in local championships at Oman Karate Academy for several years.

She was invited by the Omani Karate Committee and the coach, Hussein al Desouki, to attend the Omani Karate team’s training, which coincided with the plan of the Omani Committee to select top Oman players to represent Oman team for the first time in the history of the game.

Raoum began her professional career at the age of 15, where she represented the national junior team in the Asian Karate Championship from April 2019 in Malaysia, and was also ranked fourth place in The UAE International Open Karate Championship in November 2019.

Oman National player Raoum al Fazari, who started her speech by saying “I started my karate playing in 2014 when I was ten years old, specifically at the Karate Academy in Oman in Saham branch club, under the Egyptian coach Nasr Abbas, to take advantage of the free time during the summer vacation in 2014”.

“I loved this sport and decided to continue training, and my parents were credited with giving me the first motivation during my professionalism in this game, and despite the difficulties I faced in organising my time during school times, but I succeeded in continuing in this field and achieved my goals, while obtaining black belt with international accreditation from the Japan Karate Association on December 5, 2020 after 7 years of diligence and perseverance”, she added.

Al Fazariyah participated in tournaments at the level of the Omani Academy in various branches and won many medals, including getting the kata gold in the Academy Championship in Al Buraimi in 2018.

She also won a kumite gold in Muscat in 2018, then she won two kumite and kata golds in the academy championship in Al Dakhiliyah in 2018 and 2019, respectively. As well as the bronze kumite in the Oman Karate Championship in 2019, then the kumite silver in the international championship at the Shotokan Club in Muscat in 2020 also won the kumite gold in the Oman Karate Championship in 2021.
