More rains likely due to low pressure

 

Several wilayats like Jabal Al Akhdhar, Samayil as well as some parts of North Al Sharqiyah, Ibra received heavy rains on Saturday as low pressure systems approaches from the Indian Peninsula to the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman.

While heavy rains continued around Al Hajar Mountains due to local cloud development, convective clouds had been gathering up for the western Hajar

and moving to the eastern Hajar bringing heavy rains and by Saturday evening scattered clouds covered Al Wusta Governorate.

The Meteorologist from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre of Civil Aviation Authority while speaking to 'Observer' said

The low pressure is related to the monsoon and Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), explained the meteorologist.

The latest weather map forecasts that the extensions of low pressure might affect the Sultanate of Oman on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

“By this low pressure some scattered and broken clouds have headed to coastal areas of northern parts of Oman. It would enhance the local cloud activities especially in the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Batinah, North and South Al Sharqiyah and some parts of Muscat especially south of Muscat — Al Amerat and Qurayat. The impact is also expected in the plains and deserts of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah.

The alert is expected to continue for Tuesday and Wednesday for Al Hajar Mountains and the mountainous areas in the mentioned governorates. The amount of rain is currently forecast to be ranging between 15-40 millimetres.

Fresh downdraft winds gusting between 20 to 40 knots (40 to 80 km/hr), sometimes can cause the movement of unstable materials. Rise of dust is expected due to the fresh winds impacting horizontal visibility.

The Arabian Sea is expected to be rough with a wave height of four metres. The sea state in the rest of the coast is expected to be moderate with a wave height of two metres.

The Civil Aviation Authority has advised all to take precautions during rain especially at wadis and has requested to follow the weather bulletins.
