Oman athletics team to participate at West Asian Youth meet

The national athletics team will take part at the second edition of West Asian Youth Athletics Championships for men and women (under 20 years) which will be held in Lebanon during July 3 to 6 at Al Jamhour Sports Club stadium.
The three-day athletics meet is under the auspices of Lebanese Athletics Federation in cooperation with West Asian Athletics Federation.
As many as eleven countries will participate in the championships namely: the hosts Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sultanate of Oman.
Oman’s delegation will be headed by Said al Hadi, Vice-Chairman of Oman Athletics Association (OAA), and accompanied by Al Mansaf al Fatnasi as head coach, Fawzi al Kiyumi as administrative head, and Ahmed al Wahaibi as physical therapy head.
The list of athletes includes Hamza al Jabri, Adnan al Shizwai, Abdulaziz al Habsi, Moyad al Salami, Shikeha al Hinai, Alaa al Zadjali, Ahmed al Abdusalam, Numeer al Busaidi, Alia al Mughairi, Ayham al Hosni, Mubeen al Kindi, Afnan al Balushi, Khalid al Siyabi and Maryam al Shukaili.
The West Asian Youth Athletics Championships will feature many competitions including: 100 metre, 400M, 800M, 1,000M, 3,000M, 4X400 relay, shot put, long jump, javelin,
The hosts, Lebanon, took the first place award during the previous edition which was held in 2019. The event was not held for a few years due to the impact of Covid-19 outbreak.
Oman’s other athletics teams are gearing up for the forthcoming assignments through summer preparatory camps in Turkey. Two batches of athletes including 21 athletes arrived in Turkey and they are undergoing the training and warm-up sessions. Oman athletics team will take part at Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey in August beside their attendance at the Asian championships in Kuwait during October.
