Pacts signed to develop South Al Sharqiyah’s tourism potential
New destinations: OMRAN Group and South Al Sharqiyah Governor's Office Sign Pact to Develop Tourism Projects

Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) and South Al Sharqiyah Governor's Office signed a pact to develop several tourism projects in the governorate. The signing aligns with OMRAN Group’s endeavours to work in harmony with various stakeholders in order to stimulate the growth of the Sultanate of Oman’s tourism sector.
The pact was signed by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah and Eng Mohammed bin Salim al Busaidy, Chairman of OMRAN Group, in the presence of several officials from both parties.
Under the pact, OMRAN Group will undertake technical support as well as supervise the execution operations of the multi-phased projects being developed in several governorate’s destinations, where phase one will see a park development in Al Suwaih with a total area exceeds 65,000 square metres, as well as the development of another park in Al Ashkharah extending over a total area of roughly 14,000 square metres. The two parks will provide a variety of tourism and entertainment facilities, including dining areas, retail outlets, kids’ playgrounds, and campgrounds.
On this occasion, Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah said, “The governorate draws plenty of local and inbound tourists owing to its rich and diverse destinations, which we seek to exploit, jointly with various stakeholders, to further stimulate the governorate’s tourism.”
“Our collaboration with OMRAN Group aims at upgrading tourism services and products within those destinations, which in turn will open prospects and promising opportunities for local businesses and SMEs in the governorate,” Al Maawali added.
Meanwhile, Eng Mohammed al Busaidy, Chairman of OMRAN Group said, “This signing comes within the framework of the existing collaboration between OMRAN Group and South Al Sharqiyah Governor's Office which resonates with our vision and optimistic approach towards growing the Sultanate of Oman’s tourism sector and diversifying tourism products and services within different governorates.”
He further stated, “OMRAN Group is as active national arm in the tourism sector development, with a proven track record of developing iconic tourism projects.
Through this collaboration, OMRAN will help boosting the tourism sector through bringing the experiences of taskforces specialised in executing such projects”.
OMRAN Group is working to further explore tourism development opportunities in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism besides various stakeholders, this has been translated through meetings held with governors’ offices and attended by officials from different entities, which discussed tourism development requirements within each governorate according to its potentials.
OMRAN Group, which owns three hospitality assets in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, Atana Stay Al Ashkarah, Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, and Masirah Island Resort, plays a crucial role in enriching tourism experiences by developing iconic destinations that reflect its interest in sustainability, including the Sultanate of Oman's cultural heritage.
