Family holidays: Tourism Malaysia begins roadshows to attract tourists amid revival of global tourism

Malaysia is positioning itself as a welcoming, cost-competitive family holiday destination for Omanis this summer as the southeast Asian nation competes with other international destination for tourist traffic amid a strong revival of global tourism.

The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, also known as Tourism Malaysia, is ramping up its marketing efforts with roadshows targeting key markets in the Middle East in conjunction with Malaysia’s border reopening. The weeklong roadshows, which will end on May 21, 2022, cover Qatar and Iran, besides the Sultanate of Oman.

Speaking to the Observer, Periasamy said Malaysia is preparing to receive growing numbers of visitors during the summer. National carrier Oman Air operates four weekly flights, with Tourism Malaysia also encouraging other airlines to launch services between Muscat and Kuala Lumpur.

“The hotels in Malaysia are offering very good prices compared with other destinations. In summer (March to September) they will many activities and festivals which are very attractive opportunity for the tourist to get more information about our culture. Besides, from Malaysia, you also get very easy access to many other next-door countries,” he stated.

Leading the roadshows is Dato' Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia. The events bring together Malaysia's tourism fraternity which consists of travel agents, hoteliers, product owners, state tourism bodies and medical tourism industry players, to the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar and Iran.

Dato' Zainuddin said: 'As we welcome more West Asia travellers back to Malaysia, it is a timely occasion to strengthen our partnership with international airlines such as Qatar Airways, Oman Air and Mahan Air, which offer direct flights to Kuala Lumpur.

''With an exciting line-up of new attractions to be explored, including the newly opened Genting Skyworlds Theme Park, the world’s second tallest skyscraper Merdeka 118, and the Sunway Resort in Kuala Lumpur that just reopened after a once-in-a-generation transformation, we are thrilled to welcome international travellers worldwide to experience our country again.''

Starting from May 1, 2022, fully-vaccinated inbound travellers are no longer required to undergo pre-departure and on-arrival Covid-19 tests, including children aged 12 and below as well as for those who have been infected with Covid-19 within six to 60 days before departure to Malaysia. Travel insurance is also not a prerequisite for foreigners entering the country. The wearing of masks outdoors is optional but still mandatory indoors, including in shopping malls, offices, public transportation and e-hailing rides.
