As part of the partnership between the Ministry of Health and the private sector, the ministry has distributed home respirators to people with limited income and social security.

The ministry said that about 55 patients from all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman benefit from these devices annually, with the support of the Omani Indian Fertilizer Company for the third year in a row.

Home respirators were distributed to patients with limited income and social security who suffer from chronic respiratory diseases. The partnership and cooperation between the public and private sectors is important in serving the public interest as it helps in the implementation of many health projects in the various governorates.

This type of support from the private sector highlights its societal role, particularly in the development of the health sector, which bring about a positive and sustainable change in society.

Initiatives such as the distribution of home respirators have helped in reducing the incidence of infections, including Covid-9, caused as a result of patients staying in hospitals due to their inability to acquire these prosthetic and relevant devices.

This type of devices were classified in the past as multi-use respiratory devices. For example, the artificial respirator that the patient depends on completely, which is the most powerful as well as expensive. Other devices include the continuous automatic air pressure device used by patients who “stopped” breathing during sleep”, the two-pressure respirators that the patient needs to support him during the process of inhalation and exhalation and to drain carbon dioxide, because the patient is not able to drain it in a normal way, and the oxygen concentrator device that withdraws the gases in the air and purifies the oxygen in order to enter it to the patient according to the doctor’s instructions.

Health and safety are the pillars of a social investment programme of the private companies that seek to support Omani communities.
