Liang sets up Persson quarters, Indian pair in mixed doubles final

MUSCAT: Men's top seed Liang Jingkun of China brushed aside the challenge of compatriot Zhou Qihao to set up a quarterfinal clash with Jon Persson of Sweden in the WTT Contender Muscat 2022 on Thursday.
The World No 5 came back brilliantly against Qihao (World No 112) after losing first set 11-6 to prevail 11-7, 11-8, 11-8.
World No 44 Persson blanked World No 49 Ahmed Saleh of Egypt 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-3) in move into quarterfinals.
World No 12 Wang Chuqin of China will meet compatriot Xiang Peng in their quarterfinal clash.
Chuqin beat compatriot Zhao Zihao 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 11-9) in the last-16 round.
China’s Liu Dingshuo also booked a quarterfinal against World No 11 Quadri Aruna of Nigeria.
Aruna beat Zhang Yudong of China 3-1 (11-13, 11-7, 12-10-11-8) in the last-16 match.
Dingshuo eased past compatriot Sun Wen 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-7).
Siqi RUN CONTINUES
In the women’s section, China’s Fan Siqi continued her fine run by entering the quarterfinal.
Siqi blanked Jian Nan Yuan of France 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-9) to set up a last-eight clash against Portugal's Jieni Shao.
Shao beat Italy's Debora Vivarelli 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-4).
World No 21 Xiaoxin Yang of Monaco will take on World No 31 Elizabeta Samara of Romania in the quarterfinal.
Yang ended the challenge of India's Archana Girish Kamath 3-1 (11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9) in last 16.
Samara advanced after a 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8) win over Chen Yi of China.
World No 49 Manika Batra of India also moved into quarterfinals after a 3-0 blanking of Bernadette Szocs of Romania (11-3, 13-11, 11-8).
In men's doubles semifinals, Chinese pair of Lin Shidong and Xiang Peng will take on Darius Movileanu and Eduard Ionescu of Romania.
Cedric Nuytinck of Belgium and Jakub Dyjas of Poland will meet Peng Wang-Wei and Chuang Chih-Yuan of Chinse Taipei in the second semifinal.
The first semifinal of women's doubles will be an all-Indian affair with Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee taking on Sreeja Akula and Selena Selvakumar.
The second semifinal will be a Chinese affair as well with Qian Tianyi-Chen Xingtong setting up match with Zhang Rui and Kuai Man.
