ROP celebrates annual day, graduation

 

Nizwa: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) marked its annual day which falls on January 5 each year, on Wednesday. The 5th of January is an exceptional date for ROP as it marks the anniversary of the opening of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences.

The ROP pays a great attention to the grooming of its affiliates according to the nature and tasks entrusted to each of its formations and in line with the emerging security challenges through the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences and the training departments and sections of the various formations of the Royal Oman Police. ROP utilizes the latest training educational programmes and practical applications that provide the police personnel with the necessary skills to handle various security issues and events.

Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences includes a number of specialized training centres such as the Officers Institute, the Non-Commissioned Officers Institute, the Institute of Police Recruits and the Institute of Female Police. This is in addition to the Centre for Research and Studies, the Practical Applications Centre and the College of Police. Among the Academy’s objectives is to provide the best and latest educational methods to the trainees to hone their skills and leverage their competency in addition to providing a suitable environment for them to perform their duties and tasks assigned to them after their graduation to serve the national security and development and achieve the goals of the national economic strategies.

Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Salim bin Rashid al Alawi, Commander of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences, said that the celebration of the ROP annual day commemorates the inauguration of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences under the Royal patronage of late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may his soul rest in peace, on January 5, 1980. From then on, the 5th of January was designated as the ROP annual day. This occasion carries a great significance for all police affiliates and a motivation to renew their determination and continue to achieve more efforts in various fields for this dear nation to enjoy security and stability.

The commander of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences added: “This year, the Royal Oman Police marks its annual day while looking forward to a bright future through the Royal blessing accorded to it by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Supreme Commander.” — ONA
