Tender soon for new Central Vegetable Market in Khazaen

MUSCAT: Khazaen Fruit and Vegetable Central Market has announced the completion of the preparation of the detailed design for Khazaen Fruit and Vegetable Central Market, and a tender has been issued for the implementation and construction work for specialised companies in this field.
Construction work on the project is expected to commence during the first quarter of 2022.
The establishment of Khazaen Fruit and Vegetable Central Market comes as a part of the Sultanate’s efforts to support the food sector and cold storage chains, in line with the national strategy for food security and growth in the marketing sector of fruits and vegetables.
The new Fruit and Vegetable Market consists of multi- major facilities and logistics services, such as the cold storage facilities, main sales hall, truck sales area, vegetable sorting and packing workshops, local agricultural products reception building, onion and potato sheds, customs inspection and plant quarantine area, administration offices and the companies working in the market, forklift operation station, agriculture samples examination laboratory and other necessary facilities and services for the Fruit and Vegetable Market operations.
In May 2021, Khazaen Fruit and Vegetable Central Market signed an agreement with Muscat Municipality for the transfer of the fruits and vegetables storage and wholesale activities from Al Mawaleh area to Khazaen Economic City.
The relocation of Al Mawaleh’s current fruit and vegetable storage and wholesale activities is intended improve urban planning in Muscat Governorate and allow the current market’s site to be developed for retail trading activities.
A transitioning plan will be drawn up to reallocate all the fruit and vegetable wholesale related companies from Al Mawaleh to the new market in Khazaen Economic City.
