HEIs research wings to get a boost through IoT upgrade

To keep pace with the global standards, the Research and Innovation wing of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has decided to upgrade its facilities and raise the general education and research standards in the country. The move is to enhance the capabilities of the research wings of the higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
The MoHERI has called for operation management facilitators for Centre of Excellence for Advanced Telecommunication Technology and Internet of Things (IoT). It has asked competent players to come forward and facilitate the services as per global standards.
The project is important for digital transformation of the country with the production of trained and skilled workforce based on Oman Vision 2040.
“The Centre of Excellence for Advanced Telecommunication Technology and Internet of Things aims to transfer knowledge and develop basic skills in the application of the fifth generation (5G) and IoT, by implementing necessary and effective training programmes that will contribute in creating a skilled and practical generation trained with the necessary skills for the industrial revolutions and digital transformation,” said a MoHERI document that called for expression of interest from players willing to participate in the programme. The core idea behind the project is to develop the capabilities and raise the efficiency of the institutions engaged in the telecommunication sector, large companies, SMEs, Omani researchers and innovators.
The MoHERI is committed to making the Sultanate of Oman a knowledge-based society for which it is encouraging original research and innovation from academics and students in the higher educational institutions.
It recently funded 446 research projects with a total value of RO 2.30 million. It keeps connected globally with exchange programmes and events that involve idea sharing, learning and upgrading its system.
The ministry’s online Research Information Management System (RIMS) assists researchers with quick funding and efficient research, while enabling them to examine the projects faster.
It provides access to a database of research projects, and enables researchers to contact each other to collaborate.
