Hiring of omanis gets a fillip

The Ministry of Labour issued a performance indicator report on the absorption of the Omani workforce in the labour market between January and September 2021. According to the report, a total of 35,344 young Omanis were employed in the public and private sectors during the period.
The report also indicated a decrease in the non-Omani workforce by 7.6 per cent between September 2020 and 2021.
The state apparatus offered 19,535 jobs, while 15,809 were accommodated in the private sector establishments.
A total of 12,626 jobs were created through training and rehabilitation, in which 6,446 were absorbed in the government sector while the private sector accommodated 6,180 individuals.
The performance indicator report gave clear heads under which the Omanis were provided with the jobs, and appreciably, the private sector did direct recruitment of 8,562 freshers who did not have any job experience.
In the report, the Ministry of Labour admitted to having taken many steps to increase the competencies of Omanis and their absorption in the labour market. The ministry’s executive plan that started at the beginning of 2021 came out with positive results. Due to the direct initiative of the Ministry of Labour, a total of 1,067 jobs were created.
For absorption of Omanis in the private sector, the educational levels of the candidates were strictly considered. As per the performance indicator report, among the absorbed Omanis in the private sector, 2,025 were without a general education diploma, 2,664 from the general education diploma and its equivalent, 1,088 from the university diploma, 2,695 university certificate holders and 90 with master’s and doctoral degrees.
The report also indicated a decrease in the non-Omani workforce by 7.6 per cent between September 2020 and 2021.
