MUSCAT, Oct 24: In a significant upgrade from its virtual-only format, the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO) will now take place as a hybrid event – a step-up that promises to impart new vigour and buzz to the Sultanate’s premier international forum on clean energy.

Organised by Oman-based Birba Energy, the 3-day event will be held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC) in Madinat Al Irfan, Muscat, from November 29 to December 1, 2021, with the proceedings streamed live to online participants from around the world on a number of platforms.

Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman will bring together high level representatives of energy companies, regional and international energy groupings, and energy industry thought-leaders and decision-makers from across the world. Also taking part will be ministerial delegations from a number of countries in the Arabian Gulf, Europe and the Far East – all seeking to make common cause in the quest to accelerate the development of new, sustainable energy resources that will address pressing climate challenges as well.

For Oman, which has announced an important shift away from fossil fuels and into cleaner fuels, notably green hydrogen, the Summit will cap a year of momentous developments that promise to herald a carbon-free energy future for the country.

A concrete roadmap complete with timelines for the crystallization of this sustainable energy future, powered predominantly by green hydrogen, will be unveiled during the Summit.

Setting the tone for the Summit proceedings will be a keynote address by Eng Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Minerals.

This will be followed by a series of sessions focusing on the following five themes: Oman’s National Strategy for Green Hydrogen; Oman’s Current Project Development; International partnerships and investment opportunities; Successful learnings from regional and international projects; and Latest trends and technological advancements.

Given the immense importance of the Summit’s central theme to the future of the Omani economy, the event has garnered support from a wide array of prestigious organisations from Oman and abroad.

The line-up includes Oman LNG (Host Sponsor), Petroleum Development Oman and OQ (Main Sponsors), Oman Shell (Platinum Sponsor), Petrofac (Diamond Sponsor), Siemens Energy (Gold Sponsor), Port of Duqm, Majis, TUV SUD, ABB, ONEIC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Sohar Aluminium and Worley (as Silver Sponsors), and OTTCO and Linde (as Session Sponsors).

Backing the event as Associate Partners are the International Energy Agency (IEA), the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce (AHK), and Desert Energy (Dii).

Oman Society of Petroleum Services (OPAL) and AUSDE have signed on as Supporters.

In conjunction with the Summit, a series of Masterclass Workshops focusing on key aspects of the green hydrogen economy will be held as well.

“This is a must-attend event for decision-makers and other professionals who wish to part of a transformative journey that Oman and other countries in the region are embarking on as they prepare to embrace a sustainable energy future,” said Dr Abdullah al Abri, Head of Energy Renewals and Chairman – Executive Committee, GHSO.
