Cooperation between AOU and SQU discussed

MUSCAT: In pursuit of the strategic goal of Arab Open University (AOU), Oman branch, in developing and enhancing students’ services and support, and in context of exchanging experiences, the Student Support Centre (SSC) recently paid an official visit to the Student Counseling Centre (SCC) in Sultan Qaboos University.
“We took the opportunity to look at what others do and how they provide their services to students. Definitely the Student Counseling Centre in SQU, is considered as one of the top student’s services centres in the Middle East. Therefore, we visited them to share experience and to see their strategies, their next steps and try to enhance our services for our students.” Ghaith al Hakmani, Student Support Supervisor in AOU, said.
According to Dr Maha Alani, Head of SCC in SQU: “The Student Counseling Centre provides a comprehensive program of support services to assist SQU students in their adjustment to the demands of the university environment. The centre has a membership of the International Association of Counseling Centers.”
Based on the mission of Arab Open University the SSC offers its services for students of all levels. The centre has been launched to be a participant of the university’s vision of providing and coordinating services to students in order to increase the effectiveness of the system of learning and education and to complement the services offered by the Arab Open University. The centre helps students to achieve personal, academic, and professional goals through constructive and positive interaction. SSC also provides the necessary support and tutoring to help students to increase their understanding of the curriculum. In addition, the SSC seeks to develop the necessary skills of learning to enhance students’ confidence in their abilities.
