New internal scholarship programme launched

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, has introduced a new internal scholarship programme known as the partial internal scholarship programme for all students to obtain diploma qualification (DS).

The Directorate-General for Scholarships at the ministry affirms that it takes into consideration all proposals or recommendations related to the conditions and specialisations rolled out last year, particularly under the conditions the world is currently witnessing due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ministry also affirmed that it is considering the requirements of some government entities such as the health and educational disciplines.

In an interview with Oman News Agency (ONA), Lara bint Ghassan Obeidat, Director-General of Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, explained that the scientific research and innovation disciplines offered by the ministry to the students of the General Education Diploma (GED) and its equivalent as part of internal and external scholarship programmes for the academic year (2021/2022), cover a wide range of specializations that meets the wishes of students and the requirements of various sectors. The internal scholarship programmes also focus on increasing and diversifying the opportunities available to students.

The official added that students admitted as part of the ESAM and STEM packages can choose the major (for bachelor’s degree only) and educational institution and country from a list of countries namely the United Kingdom, the USA, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Kingdom of Netherlands, France, and Canada, before the end of the period for the completion the registration procedures, noting that the final decision on approval of the institution is the prerogative of the ministry.

Regarding the latest developments in scholarships offered by the sisterly and friendly countries, the director-general of scholarships said that scholarships offered by Egypt have been added which includes tuition fees and a monthly allowance for four scientific majors in three prestigious Egyptian universities. — ONA
