Jennifer earns tie with Park at Match-Play

LAS VEGAS: American Jennifer Chang earned a shocking tie against World No 2 Inbee Park on Wednesday on the first day of round-robin play at the Bank of Hope Match-Play tournament in Las Vegas.

Chang is ranked 259 in the world and doesn't own a victory on the LPGA Tour. Park has 21 career victories.

Chang was 1-up heading into No 18 but bogeyed the final hole at Shadow Creek Golf Course, allowing Park to square the match. Park was 1-up after the second hole but Chang responded by winning three in a row on holes 6-8. Park birdied No 11 to cut the lead to one stroke.

In the other Group 2 match, Gaby Lopez was a 4&2 winner over Celine Boutier.

This is the LPGA Tour's first match play event since 2017. The event features 16 groups of four. After three days of group play matches, the event moves to a 16-player, single-elimination format.

The players are seeded according to their place in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.

In Group 1, Jin Young Ko and Caroline Masson were winners. Ko won 4&2 over Natalie Gulbis.

In Group 3, Brittany Altomare defeated Yu Liu while Sei Young Kim tied Ayako Uehara.

In Group 4, Jenny Coleman and Angela Stanford were 1-up winners.

In Group 5, Danielle Kang and Lizette Salas started 1-0 with wins.

In Group 6, Megan Kang and Alison Lee opened with wins.

In Group 7, Stacy Lewis defeated Mi Hyang Lee 5&4 while Patty Tavatanakit and Sarah Kemp played to a tie.

In Group 8, Moriya Jutanugarn was a winner while Minjee Lee tied Jaye Marie Green.

In Group 9, Gerina Piller and Azahara Munoz were winners.

In Group 10, Nasa Hataoka was a winner over Jing Yan and Jasmine Suwannapura was a 2-up winner over Mi Jung Hur.

In Group 11, So Yeon Ryu and Eun-Hee Ji were winners.

In Group 12, Annie Park was a winner over fellow American Austin Ernst while Amy Olson and Bronte Law dueled to a tie.

In Group 13, Jennifer Kupcho and Leona Maguire were winners.

In Group 14, Brittany Lincicome went to 1-0 while Jeongeun Lee 6 and Pajaree Anannarukarn played to a tie.

In Group 15, Sung Hyun Park started strong and Sophia Popov played to a tie with Hee Young Park.

In Group 16, Sarah Schmelzel was a winner while Lauren Stephenson and Ariya Jutanugarn tied. -- Reuters
