MUSCAT: Shotokan Karate Centre became overall champions in the Internal Championship of Muscat Karate-Do Academy which concluded in Al Maabela, Muscat Governorate, recently. Shito-Ryu Oman Karate Club came second while Al Buraimi Karate Academy finished third.
The concluding ceremony on December 6 was held under the auspices of Sid bin Zahir al Abri, and in the presence of Shaikh Salem bin Hamad al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Oman Karate Committee, and Shaikh Abdullah al Mahdhali.
The championship was organised by the Shotokan Karate Centre and Muscat Karate-Do Academy, with the participation of 130 male and female athletes representing six clubs and centres including Muscat Karate-Do Academy, Shotokan Karate Centre, Al Buraimi Karate Academy, Shito-Ryu Oman Karate Club, Nusoor Samail Karate Club and Abtal Samail Karate Club.
The championship included two competitions -- kata and kumite -- divided based on weight categories and age groups. The events were officiated by 13 distinguished judges, including international, Asian and national referees.
The championship witnessed intense competition among participants from the clubs, centres and academies. A large crowd of parents attended, playing a significant role in encouraging their children and boosting their morale.
Afterward, the guest of honour and the chairman of the Oman Karate Committee presented medals to the male and female players who secured the top positions.
Apart from the top three teams, other team positions included Muscat Karate-Do Academy in fourth, Nusoor Samail Karate Club in fifth and Abtal Samail Karate Club in sixth spot.
The organising committee extended its gratitude to the guest of honour and the chairman of the Oman Karate Committee for their presence and support of such championships. Appreciation was also extended to all parents who accompanied and supported their children during the event.
