MUSCAT: The 24th Omani Otorhinolaryngology Conference concluded with key recommendations to enhance cochlear implantation efforts for individuals with hearing disabilities and adopt advanced techniques for addressing complex sinus conditions, including biological therapy for challenging cases.


The conference also emphasised the application of modern approaches for treating nasal tumours, such as through the eye socket, and updated methodologies for staging head and neck tumours, utilising innovative surgical, chemotherapy and radiation techniques.


Organised by the Omani Otorhinolaryngology Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, represented by Al Nahda Hospital, the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, the Oman Medical Specialty Board, and the Oman Medical Association, the event attracted nearly 300 participants, including professors, consultants and specialists from Oman and abroad.


The conference showcased prominent research, technological advancements and treatments for conditions such as ear nerve surgery, sinus disorders, and head and neck tumours. It also explored best practices for both benign and malignant tumour management and modern cosmetic surgical techniques.

Dr Yousef bin Ali al Saidi, Consultant at Al Nahda Hospital and Vice-President of the Omani Otorhinolaryngology Association, highlighted the diverse participation from the Gulf, Arab and international communities. Discussions spanned topics such as cochlear implants, ear and sinus diseases, hearing and neck tumours.


Dr Habeeba al Maskari, ENT Consultant, remarked on the participation of over 100 global surgeons and experts, facilitating valuable exchanges on cutting-edge medical technologies aimed at delivering high-quality healthcare. She also presented on restoring nasal valves using innovative techniques.


Meanwhile, Dr Janan Abdwani, Head of the ENT Department at Al Nahda Hospital, delivered a working paper on biological treatments to reduce the recurrence of polyps, enhancing patient outcomes. She noted the conference's wide international involvement from experts in America, Europe, South Korea and GCC countries, ensuring the transfer of global expertise to Oman.


The conference aimed to review and discuss the latest advancements in otolaryngology, fostering knowledge exchange and international collaboration to elevate the skills of medical personnel and enhance the quality of healthcare services in the Sultanate of Oman. - ONA
